Michigami: WTCC campaign career pinnacle
Ryo Michigami says his season-long FIA World Touring Car Championship campaign with the factory Honda team will be the “pinnacle” of his motorsport career.
Forty-three-year-old Michigami made his WTCC debut in his native Japan last season, just missing out on a points finish at Twin Ring Motegi in a works Civic.
He’s back for more in 2017 only this time he’ll be an ever-present alongside team-mates Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro.
“As a Japanese driver, I’m extremely proud to be given the opportunity to represent a Japanese manufacturer in a world championship,” said Michigami. “I’m aware that this season will be a huge challenge for me, but I will use all the experience I have gained during my career in Japan and I am incredibly motivated to perform strongly across the season. I want to make this the pinnacle of my life in motorsport and together with Honda, JAS Motorsport, Tiago and Norbi, I will make the maximum effort possible to achieve this. I would also like to thank everybody in advance for their help and support in 2017.”
Michigami is testing with the factory Honda squad in Spain this week. The 2017 begins in Marrakech from 7-9 April when WTCC Race of Morocco takes place on the semi-permanent Circuit Moulay El Hassan.
