Cristiano Ronaldo drew widespread acclaim on Saturday night for showing great sportsmanship in the World Cup last-16 match between Portugal and Uruguay.

Edinson Cavani, who had scored twice for Uruguay, suffered an injury which required him to be substituted in the second half.

And Ronaldo was the man who helped him off the pitch.

Many praised Ronaldo for an apparent act of sportsmanship.
