Shiffrin picked up two golds and a bronze at the world championships earlier this month, and in beating Christina Geiger in the final she also won the World Cup slalom title for the 2019 season – her sixth victory in seven years.
Andre Myhrer won Olympic slalom gold ahead of Zenhaeusern last year, but the Swedish 36-year-old was ultimately beaten by the Swiss in the final amid reports he is set to retire from the sport.
An all-Swede women’s small final saw Anna Swenn Larsson beat Frida Hansdotter to take bronze, while Marco Schwarz beat Daniel Yule in the men’s to finish third.
In winning his last-16 race against Victor Muffat-Jeandet, Marcel Hirscher sealed a sixth season World Cup slalom title – having picked up the crystal globe in that discipline every year since 2013 except for 2016.
However, fresh from sealing a record-equalling seventh world championship gold in the slalom on Sunday, Hirscher was knocked out in the last eight by Zenhaeusern.
With the wind in his sails, Zenhaeusern took a healthy lead in the final with Myhrer stumbling, and after Schwarz beat Yule to third, Zenhaeusern saw out the victory to spoil Myhrer’s potential farewell party on home snow.
Meanwhile, Briton Dave Ryding exited at the last-16 stage – he trailed Marco Schwarz by just 0.01 seconds after the first run but fell further behind in their second race.
Another early upset saw newly-crowned Giant Slalom world champion Henrik Kristoffersen beaten by Sebastian Foss-Solevaag in the opening round.
In the women’s event, a mistake on the jump saw second seed Petra Vlhova crash out at the quarter-final stage, with Geiger then knocking out Olympic champion Frida Hansdotter to make the final.
A thrilling semi-final race saw Swenn Larsson edge Shiffrin in the opening run, but the American remarkably overturned the deficit in the second run to reach the final by 0.01 seconds.
And after Swenn Larsson overcame compatriot Hansdotter to finish third, Shiffrin won the final against Geiger by 0.27 seconds to win the slalom season title with two events to go.
