World Cup slalom champion Giorgio Rocca will miss the opening speed events of the World Cup season at Lake Louis this weekend, opting to return to Italy in order to recover from a knee injury.
Rocca, who won the Crystal Globe in the slalom last season after disappointing home fans when he skied out of his specialty discipline at the Turin Olympics, should return for the second slalom of the season in Beaver Creek on December 3.
Rocca finished third behind World Cup and Olympic champion Benjamin Raich and Sweden's Markus Larsson at the World Cup slalom opener in Levi.
