Raich won gold in the slalom and giant slalom at the Turin Olympics, and missed out on a third gold in the combined when he skied out on the final run of the event effectively handing the title to Ligety.
Raich won his first overall Crystal Globe last season, doing so largely on the basis of his performance in the technical events.
Heading into the first World Cup event of the season, this weekend's giant slalom in Levi, Raich said he was hoping to improve his performance in the downhill and the super-G.
"As the Olympic champion I am entering a new phase of my career," said Raich.
"I can be pretty relaxed now because I have accomplished more or less everything I dreamt about. Now I can set new goals."
"I have three years worth of experience (in the World Cup) in the speed events, so now it's time to take it to the next level," said the 28-year-old, who has won 23 Cup races but never triumphed in a downhill or super-G.
"It will take time for me to achieve my potential and win a downhill race. It will take patience, but I am a patient man. It's one of my qualities."
