Downhill champion Sofia Goggia pulls out of combined event

Newly-crowned Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia will not take part in Thursday’s combined event after pulling out at the 11th hour.
Goggia’s withdrawal was confirmed just before the combined was set to get under way, an event in which American Mikaela Shiffrin is favourite for gold.
Compatriot Lindsey Vonn is also in action in what is expected to be her final Olympic event, and both will be boosted by Goggia’s absence.
The Italian took downhill gold on Thursday, while Vonn had to settle for bronze after Ragnhild Mowinckel claimed silver.
