The 27-year-old has been waiting a long time for her maiden World Cup triumph – having debuted at the level back in 2009 – and did so by expertly negotiating the bottom part of the track to race home for victory.
The Austrian's time of 1:15.44 was 0.4s ahead of Slovenian skier Ilka Stuhec, who picked up second in Italy.
And the Austrians ended up dominating the podium as Stephanie Venier completed the top three – coming home 0.46s behind her compatriot.
There was a notable absence from the top finishers too as eight-time overall downhill World Cup winner Lindsey Vonn placed tied-15th while the highest-placed home skier was Francesca Marsaglia, who came in seventh.
