New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur will not be bringing his old quarterbacks coach with him as offensive coordinator after the Minnesota Vikings denied the Giants permission to interview Kevin Stefanski, according to an ESPN report.

The denial is a bit of a surprise after Minnesota passed over Stefanski -- who
is still under contract with the team -- to fill Shurmur's vacated offensive
coordinator post. Instead, the Vikings hired former Philadelphia Eagles
quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo for the job.
DeFilippo has drawn some head-coaching interest recently, so it's possible his
stay in Minnesota doesn't last long.
Stefanski, 35, has been with the Vikings since 2006, serving as assistant to
head coach, assistant QBs coach, tight ends coach and running backs coach
before taking over the QBs job in 2017. He and Shurmur helped Case Keenum to a
career season and an NFC Championship Game appearance, making Shurmur one of
the league's hottest head-coaching candidates this offseason.
--The Pittsburgh Steelers signed fullback Roosevelt Nix to a four-year deal
through the 2021 season, the team announced.
Nix was named to the Pro Bowl this season in the final year of his contract
after leading the way for Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell, who was third in
league rushing with 1,291 yards. Nix finished the 2017 season with one rushing
and receiving touchdown, along with 10 special teams tackles.
In addition, the Steelers reworked the deals of All-Pro guard David DeCastro
and defensive end Stephon Tuitt that cleared $13.26 million of salary cap
space in 2018, a league source told ESPN.
--Buffalo Bills great and Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who has battled
head and neck cancer in recent years, had his gallbladder removed.
His daughter, Erin Kelly-Bean, wrote on her Instagram account Friday night
about her father and noted that her mother, Jill, has been in the hospital
since Wednesday battling pneumonia.
Kelly was at the Super Bowl in Minnesota last week making the rounds for radio
and TV interviews as part of his ongoing effort to raise awareness and money
for cancer patient organizations.
--Houston Texans running back D'Onta Foreman has reached a favorable
resolution on marijuana and gun charges stemming from his arrest last July.
The former University of Texas star pleaded no contest to a single misdemeanor
count, a charge of disorderly conduct for making unreasonable noise, according
to the Houston Chronicle. That charge will be dismissed by Travis County
prosecutors provided that Foreman has no legal issues for 90 days.
Foreman, 21, was originally charged with two misdemeanors: possession of
marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was required to pay a $500
fine and turn in a gun that police found in his car, according to his
Houston-based attorney Chip Lewis.
--Longtime NFL scout Jim Garrett, the father of Dallas Cowboys head coach
Jason Garrett, died Friday night. He was 87.
Jim Garrett's wife, Jane, and all eight of their children were by his side
when he passed away, according to a press release from the Cowboys. Since
2012, Garrett battled the effects of a stroke.
He had been around professional football for nearly 40 years, including as an
assistant coach with the New York Giants (1969-1973), New Orleans Saints
(1976-77) and Cleveland Browns (1978-84).
