Jake Wightman has ruled himself out of the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow after sustaining an injury.
The 2018 European bronze medallist was set to compete at his home event in March but suffered a stress fracture in his lower back.
The Commonwealth bronze medallist revealed the injury on social media with a post detailing his disappointment on missing out on a first European indoor competition.
He said: "A pain in the backside (literally). Sadly I won't be having an indoor season after developing a stress fracture in my sacrum.
"Gutting, but going to use this time to get everything sorted to make sure I come back and have a good summer."
The 24-year-old 1500m specialist reigned supreme at the 2013 European Junior Championships – claiming gold in Rieti, Italy.
