As part of the deal the Yankees will pay $4 million of Wright's $7 million salary next season.
Bothered by shoulder problems, Wright failed to live up to expectations in New York.
Wright made 27 starts last season, posting a record of 11-7 with a 4.49 ERA but has only pitched more than 150 innings twice in his 11-year career, which also included stops in Cleveland, Atlanta and San Diego.
In return for Wright, the Yankees get a hefty prospect in the 6-foot 3-inch, 280 pound Britton, who worked 52 games for the Orioles last season, posting a record of 0-2 with 3.35 ERA.
"We are excited with the addition of Chris Britton who we expect to compete for a role in our bullpen," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.
