LA Dodgers tempted to back out of $45 million deal for Iwakuma - MLB Round Up

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be backing out of a three-year, $45 million deal with Japanese right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, according to a report out of Japan.

Jiji Press, a wire service in Japan, reported that the Dodgers are backing out the deal because Iwakuma failed his physical.
If the original deal is cancelled, it is possible the Dodgers might offer a lesser package.
The Japanese hurler dealt was limited to 20 starts last season for the Seattle Mariners due to injuries but went 9-5 with a 3.54 ERA and pitched a no-hitter in August.

The Atlanta Braves are bringing back former All-Star third baseman Chipper Jones to work for the franchise in a front-office role.
The Braves hired Jones as a special assistant for baseball operations. He will report to president of baseball operations John Hart and general manager John Coppolella.
An eight-time All-Star, Jones retired after the 2012 campaign, capping 19 seasons with the Braves as a player.

The Texas Rangers reached agreement with free-agent outfielder Justin Ruggiano on a one-year, $1.65 million contract.
Ruggiano batted .248 with six home runs and 15 RBIs in 57 games with the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
The 31-year-old Ruggiano has a career batting average of .256 with 49 home runs and 152 RBIs.

The Los Angeles Angels reached agreement on a one-year deal with outfielder Daniel Nava.
The agreement calls for a $1,375,000 salary but isn't guaranteed. The deal includes $500,000 in performance bonuses for the .265 career hitter.
Nava experienced a difficult 2015 season, hitting .152 in 29 games for the Boston Red Sox before being waived. The Tampa Bay Rays claimed him and he batted .233 in 31 games.

The oft-injured Bailey appeared in 10 games with the New York Yankees last season. Bailey, 31, agreed to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training.
