The New York Mets trumped the cross-town Yankees 10-7 to take the first two games of their Subway Series. David Wright hit a pair of two-run homers for the National League-best Mets (28-14) and Tom Glavine (5-1) notched his 295th career victory.

The hapless Yankees slipped into a tie for last place in the American League East after losing a game in which second baseman Robinson Cano made three errors and starter Darrell Rasner fractured a finger on his pitching hand.
"David had a big day, obviously, with the two big home runs," Mets skipper Willie Randolph said.
"We'll see if we can finish up tomorrow with the sweep."
Wright's second homer off lefty reliever Mike Myers, who replaced Rasner, bounced off outfielder Johnny Damon's glove and hopped over Shea Stadium's centerfield fence to give the Mets a 6-2 lead in the third.
"We didn't play as well defensively as we need to, there's no question, and the Mets took advantage," Yankees manager Joe Torre said.
The Yankees battled back and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but eventually lost their third in a row and dipped to 18-23, 11 games behind the Boston Red Sox.
Damon was frustrated he could not make the catch.
"I got there, timed it perfect, but the ball hit the wrong part of my glove and the ball popped out," Damon said.
"I still can't believe I didn't catch it. It's been a frustrating year but I assure you we will bounce back. It's just a matter of time."
One bright spot in the Yankees lineup was catcher Jorge Posada, who continued his hot hitting streak going 4-for-5 with a homer. Cano and Alex Rodriguez also homered for the Yankees.
"We kept battling," Posada said. "We want to get going."
Rasner fractured the index finger on his pitching hand as he tried to catch a hard-hit comebacker from Endy Chavez on the Yankee right-hander's ninth pitch of the game.
Rasner (1-3) joined a long list of injured Yankees pitchers.
"It's just weird stuff that has happened involving the pitchers," Torre said. "You have to fight your way through.
"We'll turn it around, but I wish I could give you a date on that."
