Lewis became the 22nd player in Major League history to collect all four types of hits in a game.
"I didn't put a whole lot of emphasis on it," Lewis said. "I wasn't sure if they counted the triple a triple, because I hesitated going around second.
"So I was going up there just to hit, because I didn't know for sure."
The 26-year-old outfielder went five-for-six with four runs batted in while playing in just his 16th Major League game over two seasons.
He hit a double in the first inning, then belted a three-run homer in the fourth.
"I didn't think at all that home run was gone," Lewis added. "I don't hit too many home runs to the opposite field; I just hit line drives. I was thinking 'three' (triple) out of the box."
Lewis added a run-scoring triple in the fifth and completed the cycle with a seventh-inning single.
He added another single later in the seventh when the Giants sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs.
"I think the guy has a chance to be a special player," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "He has talent written all over him."
San Francisco lashed six Colorado pitchers for 22 hits, scoring four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the seventh.
Kevin Frandsen went 4-for-5 and Eliezer Alfonzo and Omar Vizquel each had three hits. Giants slugger Barry Bonds sat out the game.
Oliver Perez allowed only one hit through eight innings as the New York Mets crushed the Milwaukee Brewers in a 9-1 home win.
Perez gave up a third-inning single to pitcher Chris Capuano, then held the Brewers hitless until Bill Hall's ninth-inning homer.
The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a five-game Atlanta winning streak with a 13-2 home win over the Braves. Chris Duffy and Freddy Sanchez each had three hits to power the 18-hit Pittsburgh attack.
West Division leaders Los Angeles Dodgers scored five runs in the eighth inning to overpower the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 in Los Angeles.
American League
The Boston Red Sox took advantage of a two-out error to complete a six-run ninth-inning rally and stun the Baltimore Orioles 6-5.
Closer Chris Ray muffed a catch while covering first base to allow the Red Sox to come back from a 5-0 deficit.
Ray failed to handle a toss from Orioles' first baseman Kevin Miller on Julio Lugo's grounder, permitting Jason Varitek and Eric Hinske to score the game's tying and winning runs.
Boston put together six runs on three hits, three walks and two errors in the stunning comeback.
"Just how you draw it up," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.
The rally began with one out when Orioles catcher Ramon Hernandez dropped a popup by Coco Crisp for an error.
The Orioles then replaced starter Jeremy Guthrie, who had allowed only three hits, with Danys Baez.
Baez lasted only two batters. He gave up a run-scoring double to David Ortiz and a single to Wily Mo Pena.
Ray relieved Baez and walked two consecutive batters. The first walk, to J.D. Drew, loaded the bases. The second, to Kevin Youkilis, scored Ortiz and pulled Boston to within 5-2.
Varitek followed with a two-run double and Hinske was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Baltimore's Brian Roberts threw home to nab Youkilis off Alex Cora's grounder to second for out number two.
But when Lugo grounded between first and second, Ray could not handle the throw from Millar, giving the Red Sox the game.
"I got a late jump off the mound and I kind of lost the ball a little bit on the throw. I just didn't pick it up in time," Ray said.
Lugo said he just wanted to reach first any way he could.
"You're always thinking in your backyard, you know ... bases loaded, last inning ... hitting a grand slam," he said. "I just want to get a hit."
Boston starter Josh Beckett, who has won seven straight, left the game in the fourth with what was described as an irritation to his right middle finger.
"My skin just tore," Beckett said. "There is nothing there. It's not like I got a blister."
Nelson Cruz's game-ending homer in the ninth lifted the Texas Rangers to a 7-6 home win over the Los Angeles Angels to end Texas's five-game losing streak to the Angels this season.
Jack Cust's sixth home run in seven games highlighted a five-run ninth inning as the Oakland Athletics came from behind for a 10-7 home win over the Cleveland Indians.
Carlos Pena homered in the seventh and hit a game-winning single in the ninth as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays edged the Blue Jays 2-1 in Toronto. Shaun Marcum, usually a reliever, pitched six no-hit innings for Toronto before being taken out.
Horacio Ramirez held the New York Yankees to five hits over six-plus innings in the Seattle Mariners' 2-1 home win.
More than 200 players in both leagues used bright pink bats on Sunday, Mother's Day in the U.S., to call attention to breast cancer. Other players wore pink armbands.
You get this opportunity and platform to do some good in the community and raise awareness, and I think we accomplished that with the pink bats and the pink wristbands," Seattle's Raul Ibanez said.
