Jermaine Dye homered and drove in all four of Chicago's runs, while Jon Garland scattered six hits over seven innings to give the White Sox a 2-1 victory in the series after the teams split a doubleheader the previous day.
Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen was pleased his team's problems at the plate appeared to be easing.
"As a group, we're beginning to swing the bat better," Guillen said. "Hopefully we can keep that up the rest of the year."
Garland (3-2) allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks before Mike MacDougal and Bobby Jenks each tossed a hitless inning of relief. Jenks earned his 13th save.
"It seemed at the right time I was making the right pitch and the defense behind me was outstanding," Garland said.
Dye tallied a run-scoring double in the first, a two-run homer in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The White Sox are heading into an interleague series at Wrigley Field at the weekend against the cross-town Cubs, while the Yankees head to Shea Stadium to battle the New York Mets.
"We're playing hard, but coming up empty," said Yankees manager Joe Torre.
"We're keeping the game close enough to win. Everybody feels like they are letting everybody down. We need to get in a position where we play consistent, winning baseball."
Scott Elarton earned his first victory since last July as the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics 7-4.
Fausto Carmona's four-hit shutout was the first of his career as the Cleveland Indians blanked the Minnesota Twins 2-0.
The Boston Red Sox won both games of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers, winning 2-1 in the opener and 4-2 in the later game.
