Lithuania’s Euroleague representatives, Zalgiris Kaunas, have signed New Zealand World Championship star Kirk Penney on a 2 month contract, to replace the Brazilian Marcelo Machado who will be out injured for six weeks

Penney, who was with Maccabi Tel Aviv last season, played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin and despite going undrafted, also enjoyed short spells in the NBA with the Miami Heat and the LA Clippers.

At this year's World Championships in Japan he averaged 14ppg, and was also a key member of the “Tall Black” side which finished fourth at the 2002 World Championship.

The transfer of the shooting guard was deemed necessary by Zalgiris when Machado injured his collarbone last week.
