Kaisa Makarainen's scintillating start to the biathlon season continued apace as she claimed a third World Cup triumph of the campaign in Hochfilzen, Austria.

The Finn edged out Paulina Fialkova and Dorothea Wierer in the women's 10km pursuit to make it three victories from just five races this term.
That brings Makarainen to five World Cup wins in 2018 – her best calendar year since a breakthrough 2014, where she notched a remarkable eight victories.
In Hochfilzen, the 35-year-old didn't shoot as cleanly as she has been in recent weeks – accruing three penalties – but still crossed the line first in 30:53.1 minutes, 1.5 seconds ahead of Slovakia's Fialkova (two penalties) and 2.8 seconds in front of Wierer (four penalties).
Italian biathlete Wierer has now climbed the podium in each of the last four World Cup races – including triumphing in the 7.5km sprint earlier this week – and her third place was enough to retain the yellow bib as the overall leader in the season-long rankings.
