"I exploded like a balloon on the last standing shoot, and that was not fun," said Bjoerndalen. "I am in great shape, but my standing shoot wasn't working and that is a shame!"
He added: "I don't have an explanation for that today, the only explanation is that I wasn't good enough."
Bjoerndalen - who leaves Turin without a gold medal - claimed bronze to go with Individual and Pursuit silver after seeing a sizzling late charge fail to catch Poland's Tomasz Sikora in second.
"I skied as fast as I could, and tried to catch the two in the front, but they were too far ahead," he said. "It's really not my Olympic Games and these kind of things can happen.
"I am happy with my two silver medals. I am not very happy with today's race."
Sikora headed Bjoerndalen by six seconds after seeing Greis motor past him after the final shoot to finish a further six seconds ahead of him.
"I am very happy. It was a very tough race for me," Sikora told Eurosport. "Before the Games, there was great expectation regarding me in Poland.
"The first races here were not too good for me. I wanted to do better. I wanted to focus on my shooting, that went well. The first two shoots were perfect and then I knew I could race for a medal."
