Wierer on top once again in Ruhpolding with historic success

Dorothea Wierer has become the first athlete to win consecutive women's 15km individual World Cup races in Ruhpolding after storming to top spot in a dominant display.

The Italian was ruthless with gun in hand and clinical across the snow in Germany, victorious by more than 12 seconds to follow up her impressive achievements of two years previous.
And with less than a month to go until the Winter Olympic Games, there is hardly a better time for Wierer to be hitting form, with Italy aiming for a gold medal for the first time in the sport.
But it was the speed of the shooting that would have most pleased the 27-year-old, hitting 20 out of 20 targets to take her own little piece of Ruhpolding history ahead of Finland's Kaisa Makarainen.
She was not the only skier celebrating unique success, with Rosanna Crawford becoming the first Canadian woman to finish on the podium in more than 11 years.
She too was to be unflappable on the shot, finishing 21.2 seconds off the pace but comfortably ahead of her closest challengers to take her memorable spot in third place.
Great Britain's Amanda Lightfoot finished in 79th place, missing four shots and finishing six minutes behind the leaders.
