Germany, the traditional powerhouse of the sport, failed to make the podium in the four-man event in Sochi four years ago. They won gold in Turin in 2006.
The German pair of Friedrich and Thorsten Margis shared gold with Canada in the two-man event on Monday after a dramatic dead-heat.
Britain's two four-man squads finished a disappointing 17th and 18th.
Both squads had medalled on the world cup circuit this season, with Lamin Deen, whose sled came home 18, taking silver in Whistler and Brad Hall claiming a bronze in Park City.
However, neither squad hit any sort of form over the course of the competition.
