Jermain Taylor will be defending his world middleweight title at the FedEx Forum, Memphis, on May 19 - but not against ‘Contender’ season 1 winner Sergio Mora.
According to Taylor"s promoter Lou DiBella, Mora himself killed the fight, which has been on the cards since last year. DiBella told ESPN that Mora was offered a seven figure payday - "more than he deserves" - but baulked at fighting in Memphis because the city is only two hours away from Taylor"s hometown of Little Rock.
Someone needs to tell Mr Mora, who hasn"t fought since August, that he"s merely the winner of a reality TV show and was lucky to get a title shot offered to him.
According to ESPN, the May 19 fight has been offered to former welterweight and reigning light middleweight champion Cory Spinks, who would step up in weight to face Taylor.
