Kal Yafai will make the fifth defence of his WBA world super-flyweight title when he takes on unheralded Dominican Norbelto Jimenez on June 29 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
The bout is set to be the Birmingham fighter’s first since an unspectacular unanimous decision victory over Mexico’s Israel Gonzalez in Monte Carlo last November.
Mandatory challenger Jimenez lost eight of his first 11 professional contests but is unbeaten in 30 bouts since then, winning his last nine.
Yafai (25-0, 15KOs) is looking to put on a show after underwhelming on his last appearance, saying: “After my last fight I’ve got to go out there and win and look good doing so.
“It’s given me that hunger to want it even more, to stay at the top and get those big fights.
“I think at times I’ve got a bit complacent, before my last fight, and that’s completely changed for this one so I’ll be at my game 100 per cent.”
