British Superbikes 2023: New format, schedule, title contenders, how to watch on TV and live stream

A new British Superbike Championship is just around the corner and a shake-up in the field means there is likely to be a brand-new champion. Nineteen riders from 21 teams will battle it out for glory in what could be a very open title race. Glenn Irwin, Tommy Bridewell, Josh Brookes and Jason O’Halloran are set to be involved in the championship fight. Find out how you can watch the season.

A new British Superbike Championship is just around the corner and a shake-up in the field means there is likely to be a brand-new champion.
Bradley Ray will not defend his crown from last year as he embarks on a new chapter in the Superbike World Championship, with Rory Skinner competing in Moto2 and Tarran Mackenzie off to join the World Supersport grid.
Jason O’Halloran will be one of several riders hoping to lift the title, with the Ducati pair of Tommy Bridewell and Glenn Irwin forming a very strong line-up.
Kyle Ryde will be OMG Racing’s lead rider after the departure of Ray whilst two-time champion Josh Brookes was fastest in pre-season testing, to underline his status as a contender.

How can I watch British Superbikes in 2023?

In the UK, you won’t miss a second of all the qualifying and race action as Eurosport and discovery+ bring you exclusive live coverage of the British Superbikes on the Saturday and Sunday of every meeting.
Roberts will lead the coverage of the championship with expert analysis provided by six-time British Superbikes champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and former riders James Haydon and James Whitham.
Eurosport can also announce that Tom Brooks will become the lead commentator for all British Superbikes support races in 2023 covering the British Talent Cup, National Junior Superstock, Junior Supersport and the new BMW F900R Cup.
Brooks has commentated on an array of two-wheeled motorsport since 2017, most notably as the voice of the FIM Superbike World Championship international broadcast feed.
BT Sport customers are now able to enjoy a feast of motorsport on discovery+ at no extra cost. BT Sport customers now have the option to gain access to discovery+ as part of their subscription at no extra cost.
Further to BT Sport’s exclusive live MotoGP coverage, subscribers will benefit from Eurosport’s full portfolio of motorsport in 2023, including every round of the FIM Speedway GP, FIA World Endurance Championship, British Speedway and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Ahead of the new MotoGP season, BT Sport Films aired Sheene, a documentary celebrating the life of two-time world champion Barry Sheene. It premiered on BT Sport 2 at 10pm on 26th March and is available for catch-up across BT Sport’s platforms.

British Superbikes 2023 calendar

The 2023 British Superbikes season will begin on April 8-9 at Silverstone, with the only significant change being Snetterton’s move from September to July.
The opening eight rounds make up the Main Season before the final three meetings at Oulton Park, Donington Park (National) and Brands Hatch (GP) making up the Showdown.

British Superbikes 2023 new format

A new points system will see different points handed out during the Showdown compared to the main season.
For the main season, the opening eight rounds, the top 15 riders will score points on the scale: 18-16-14-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
For the first two Showdown events at Oulton Park and Donington Park, this will increase to: 25-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Then for the finale at Brands Hatch, there will be more points on offer with a scale of: 35-30-27-24-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2.
The champion will be the rider with the most points over the course of the season.
