The current World and European champion in K1 1000m will compete in that event and also the K1 500m discipline as he looks to bounce back after a disappointing performance in Athens.
At the last Games Brabants was out of the medals, although he did win a bronze in Sydney.
"This is my third Olympic Games, but this year I've had my best preparations and results going into any Games.," he said after being named in the team.
"So this one I'm the most excited about in terms of a result and bringing home a medal for Team GB."
Also named in the side is Lucy Wainwright who will compete in the K1 500m.
It is the second time that the Swindon born Wainwright will compete in the event at the Games. She finished seventh in Athens but is considered another medal prospect for Team GB after having won the European Championships earlier in the year.
"It is really exciting to be going to my second Olympics. It is an amazing sporting event and achieving success in Beijing has been the main focus of the last four years of training," she said.
"Racing got off to a great start this year at the European Championships and I'm looking forward to building on this in Beijing."
James Train (C1 1000m) and the K2 500m pairing of Jess Walker and Anna Hemmings may also make the team but they will have to wait until June 26 before learning their fate.
