Florence was always going to need to improve massively on his semi-final performance, which got off to a bumpy start earlier in the day.
Though he'd managed to close a two second gap between him and the leading time to just one to see himself through to the final, it was some way off his best performance though perhaps enough to keep medal hopes alive.

An early mistake saw Florence paddling upstream and a further error gave him a finish time of 109 seconds - well behind leader Slovakia's Matej Benus on 95:02. Though it was eventually went to France's Denis Chanut who outdid Benus by less than a second.
It will no doubt be a huge disappointment for the reigning champion, though he will at least have another medal opportunity alongside Richard Hounslow in the C2 competition on Thursday.
