GALLE, Sri Lanka, Nov 9 (Reuters) - England beat Sri Lanka by 211 runs inside four days in the first test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the Galle International Stadium on Friday.
Chasing an improbable 462 for victory, Sri Lanka were all out for 250 in the final session on the penultimate day with Angelo Mathews top-scoring for the hosts with a fighting 53.
Moeen Ali was the pick of the England bowler, claiming 4-71 and finishing with a match haul of eight wickets.
The second match of the three-test series is in Kandy, starting on Wednesday, before the final contest in Colombo from Nov. 23. (Reporting by Amlan Chakraborty in New Delhi; Editing by John O'Brien)
