Live updates from the fifth T20 International of England’s tour of India in Mumbai. The home side sealed the series in Pune on Friday but spells of disciplined bowling and brillant individual batting performances have kept the tourists competitive on the subcontinent this month. BOOM OR BUST

That was only going to go one of two ways, and the management will surely think far better the way that it did than for England to limp to a middling total. You have to go for it and they did, with the result being an early bus to the hotel. The ODIs start on Thursday. And it's not that England bowled especially badly, or could have done more with the bat. They were witness to an almost miraculous innings from a young batter and all you can do is admire that.

INDIA WIN BY 150 RUNS! SERIES INDIA 4-1 EnGLAND

"Hammering" is the consensus. Certainly it was the most one-sided of the five. India got everything they wanted out of their players and the pitch leaving England to do more than reach for scraps.

WICKET! ENGLAND 97 ALL OUT Overs: 10.3

Rashid caught Jurel bowled Shami 6
Wood caught Jurel bowled Shami 0
It's all over! Shami returns to the attack and picks off Rashid who tries to slap it but can do no more than lift it up and up and into the big gloves. Shami thinks he's taken Wood first ball - as does the keeper - who might as well take the review following the umpire's headshake. They think there was glove there and so the replay shows. It's a clean catch and an execution from India.

ENGLAND 96-8 (ARCHER 0, RASHID 6) Overs: 10

Some respite for England as Rashid hammers one down the ground for not the most graceful four but a welcome one. Another couple comes from a completely mistimed swat to safety on the leg side. It's about preserving dignity at this stage.

WICKET! ENGLAND 90-8 (ARCHER 0) Overs: 9.1

Bethell b Dube 10
A chance for Bethell to impress but all he can do is hoik it onto the stumps. Bethell swung at Dube's wobbler but I'm not sure he even saw it. The writing's been on the wall for a while but as they take drinks the end is nigh. It was always going to be like this, wasn't it?

WICKET! ENGLAND 90-7 (ARCHER 0, BETHELL 10) Overs: 9

Carse caught Varun bowled Abhishek Sharma 3
Overton caught Yadav bowled Abhishek Sharma 1
When you're hot you're hot, right? With the bat or the ball this man can do no wrong, it seems. Carse had to heave one but it makes a beeline for a fielders. Overton departs with his third ball, getting right underneath it but it's still a fine catch from the captain. This might well not go the distance, as in comes Jofra Archer.

RIGHT ON THE TOE OF THE BAT - DUCKETT GOES FIRST BALL

WICKET! ENGLAND 87-5 (CARSE 3, BETHELL 9) Overs: 8

Salt c Jurel bowled Dube 55
A change of bowler breaks England hearts with his first ball. Shivam Dube takes the pace off, forces the mis-swing from Salt and brings up the edge. That's the big wicket that surely makes a massive ask an impossible one. What can Carse do, though?

WICKET! ENGLAND 82-4 (SALT 55, BETHELL 7) Overs: 7

Livingstone caught Rinku bowled Varun 9
In their quest to score big, England are losing big. Livingstone meets it on the toe and the shot is higher than it is long, allowing Rinku all the time in the world to run into position and take it comfortably. Even as England are losing wickets, Phil Salt is doing fine, reaching his 50 from another glorious maximum over midwicket. He got there from just 21 balls, a record against India. Jacob Bethell shows he might be the man to give England hope with a big one of his own over on the leg side.

WICKET! ENGLAND 68-3 (SALT 48, LIVINGSTONE 9) Overs: 6

Brook caught Varun bowled Bishnoi 2
Spin does for Harry Brook once again, as England are looking in a precarious position. Brook's sweep is met by a brilliant catch from Varun Chakravarthy. They don't just need an individual innings to match Abhishek's, they need a huge partnership.

WICKET! ENGLAND 59-2 (SALT 48, BROOK 2) Overs: 5

Buttler caught Varma bowled Varun 7
Buttler goes for 7, going for a big one but not quite timing it right. England need sixes and that's the way they're going to play, but that comes with inevitable risk. Singles help England to 50 while Salt swings at another couple to take England closer to that run rate. Such was that innings from Abhishek that the tourists are already behind.

ENGLAND 48-1 (SALT 39, BUTTLER 7) Overs: 4

Phil Salt meets a low full toss from Hardik like he means it for another massive six over square leg after which he finds space in between three fielders. You need luck as well as skill, that's for sure. Buttler taps his first boundary with a slash over the covers, but this is going to be Salt's innings you'd think. Another four from the opener backs that view up.

WICKET! ENGLAND 33-1 (SALT 23, BUTTLER 2) Overs: 3

Duckett caught Sharma bowled Shami 0
Duckett on strike for the first time and he’s gone first ball. An easy catch in the middle from Sharma as the England captain is called on earlier than he would have liked. Can he deliver a captain's innings? More pressure on Salt too who adds another boundary to his figures to slightly settle nerves in the dressing room.

ENGLAND 23-0 (SALT 23, DUCKETT 0) Overs: 2

Fielding is going to be as important as their bowling you think here for India, because England are going to throw their bats on everything that moves. That’s show with Salt still on strike and a great dive from Patel at a hard chop to point. Mind you, Hardik’s bowling can have a pretty limiting effect as well, as he picks up four dots in a row. Salt gets them back on track with a swat in the slot to finish the over with four runs.

ENGLAND 17-0 (SALT 17, DUCKETT 0) Overs: 1

Time for Phil Salt to step up. "This is the sort of wicket he should thrive on," says Sir Alastair. They have no choice but to for it, so we should have a very good second half of this match whatever happens. He starts with three consecutive boundaries off Mohammed Shami, with two simple fours and then a massive maximum into the stands at midwicket. He sends the next ball up in the air too but this one lands short of the boundary and stops, as England take two. Solid start.

A SIMPLY HUGE SCORE FOR INDIA

END OF INNINGS - INDIA 247-9 Overs: 20

As India inch close to 250 there's time for one more boundary, as Axar Patel drives through the covers off a full ball, and two final wickets in the penultimate ball of the innings. Axar Patel is run out when the batters risk a second run which Livingstone meets with a pinpoint throw to the keeper. Ravi Bishnoi goes for a big slog with his first ball but he doesn't connect and he's caught by Jamie Overton with ease. India slowed in the second half of that innings but it's still a huge chase for England. We'll see.

INDIA 240-7 (Patel 8, SHAMI 0) Overs: 19

"That innings was as good as you'll ever see," says Kevin Pieterson. Abhishek may never top it but he'll surely remember the moment he reached his century. Just three runs given up by Wood in that over as we near the end of the first half of this match. Tight bowling from Wood.

WICKET! INDIA 237-7 (Patel 6) Overs: 18

Abhishek caught Archer bowled Rashid 135 (54 balls)
The captain returns tor Rashid to try and entice Abhishek to give up his wicket. Again he connects for maximum number 12 and 13 from Abhishek as he finds the middle of the bat sending it 90 metres to the sight screen. He looks utterly fearless out there, even as he remains completely calm at the crease. Bonus territory now you'd say, but finally he walks. Abhishek reached for a wide one and clipped it to Archer who received it gratefully.

INDIA 219-6 (ABHISHEK 120, Patel 5) Overs: 17

Having been largely spectating from the non-striker's end for the last few overs, Abhishek returns to pick off a few more boundaries. The first is a four which he smashes down the ground forcing the umpire to take evasive action. Another six - and I'll confess to losing count of how many he has on his scoresheet is a rocket into the stands over long on. Axar Patel is no slouch himself, finishing the over with a delightful straight bat four over bowler Carse's head.

WATCH EVERY SINGLE BALL FROM ABHISHEK SHARMA's 37 BALL HUNDRED

WICKET! INDIA 202-6 (ABHISHEK 108, Patel 0) Overs: 16

Rinku Singh lbw bowled Archer 9
Jofra Archer gives up his 50th run from his 19th ball as Rinku Singh scores four from a full ball which he whips away to fine leg. The same batter takes India over the 200 mark with a couple of simple clips before Archer finally claims a scalp. It's given our straight away and the review gets no better for India. It was straight, in line and the perfect height. The bat was behind the pads so no real doubt about that one.

'WHAT A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE' - ABISHEK GOES TO A MAGICAL CENTURY FROM 37 BALLS

WICKET! INDIA 194-5 (ABHISHEK 108, RINKU 1) Overs: 15

Hardik caught Livingstone bowled Wood 9
Mark Wood returns with venom and almost gets a caught and bowled straight away, getting a hand on Hardik's swat back at him, but the ball doesn't stick. Hardik has clearly been watching from the stands and absolutely smashes Wood into the stands two balls later. This really is a predictable pitch and if the bowlers aren't going to mix it up they're going to pay the price. Unless the fielder is in exactly the right place, that is, as Hardik falls on his sword from his sixth ball, picking out the fielder at the backward square leg boundary. A couple of metres either side and that's sailing over the rope.

Wicket! INDIA 185-4 (ABHISHEK 106, HARDIK 2) Overs: 14

Dube caught Rashid bowled Carse 30.
England's best bowler strikes again. He's mixed it up better than anyone else and the slower bouncer does for Shivam Dube. The batter arrives a little late and top edges to fine leg. Just the one boundary in that over with Carse on 3 for 21. Another excellent over.

INDIA 178-3 (ABHISHEK 106, DUBE 26) Overs: 13

Shivam Dube picking up where he left off in the last match and showing that pace doesn't scare him one bit. A big six right into the stands all the way over Overton's head to start the over. A four to follow as the one-way traffic is barely slowing at all. Stardust is the word they're using in the commentary box. Overton would like some for himself, and a yorker that lands on Abhishek's pad is appealed for Lbw but it was pitching outside leg. Very unlikely that one, coming over the wicket. The same batter finishes off the over with another one-handed shot to backward point.

'That's a lovely shot!' - Samson launches Archer into the stands for a first-ball six

INDIA 161-3 (ABHISHEK 102, DUBE 14) Overs: 12

Jofra Archer is back and his second spell with the ball doesn't start any better than his first did. He's now been sent over every part of the boundary, as Dube just eases one over with a hook into the stands at long leg. The second half of the over is better, with only singles given up from length balls.

MY GOODNESS YOUNG MAN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

WICKET! INDIA 148-3 (ABHISHEK 101, DUBE 2) Overs: 11

Suryakumar caught Salt, bowled Carse 2.
Abhishek has definitely taken his foot off the gas. He looked to break the record for fastest 100 but that last over prevented it. Reach his tonne he does though, from the second ball off Carse. He gets there from just 37 balls. Kevin Pieterson is all superlatives, calling that a great innings. The captain's gone already though, giving up his wicket when he misjudges his favourite shot, top edging Carse high into the sky. It's not easy for Phil Salt when it eventually comes down but he takes it well. As much as India have lost momentum they had so much, were so far ahead, they're still well on top.

INDIA 143-2 (ABHISHEK 99, SURYAKUMAR 2) Overs: 10

Halfway through the allotted 20 and the batter to come in is the Captain, Suryakumar Yadav. You'd think his job is just to stay at the crease and let Abhishek do his thing. It's already his longest innings in this format and he doesn't look to be going anywhere. A restrained over, however, that one, with just the one boundary as Rashid keeps India from adding many to their tally. Time for drinks.

WICKET! INDIA 136-2 (ABHISHEK 94) Overs: 9

Tilak Varma caught Salt, bowled Carse 24.
Just a single to start the over, the most restraint we've seen so far from Abhishek from Brydon Carse. Varma is happy to play the supporting role in all of this, handing back the strike with another simple single from a yorker. Abhishek says thank you very much and the minutes of restraint are over, showing how irrelvant these boundaries are. Carse bowls outside off and lofts it over the covers. With the final ball of the over, Carse takes a scalp, which he'll take even if it's not the one England wanted. He looks to cut over the wicketkeeper but can do no more than find the gloves.

INDIA 127-1 (TILAK 23, ABHISHEK 86) Overs: 8

15.86 the current run rate as England look to take the pace off with spin at both ends. Liam Livingstone tries to give Abhishek nothing to come at, but the young batter is just as happy to wait and wait, hitting a short ball right into row 20. Another one comes one-handed to bring up the 100 partnership. You think it isn't going to travel but it positively glides over the rop. 16 more off that over.

INDIA 111-1 (TILAK 21, ABHISHEK 72) Overs: 7

Is Rishi Sunak enjoying this? Officially he shouldn't be, but it's hard not to take some satisfaction from batting as special as that which we've seen so far. Buttler brings Abdil Rashid in, the best spinner in the world at the moment, but this isn't the pitch for him, is it? After a decent couple of balls he gives up consecutive sixes to Abhiskek, both down the ground and into the crowd over long on. They're going further and further. It seems he was just warming up earlier, but brutal to be on the receiving end of.

INDIA 95-1 (TILAK 19, ABHISHEK 58) Overs: 6

More runs for India coming off Liam Livingstone who takes the ball for the first bit of spin of the day. Got to try something different, right. There's no stopping this pair, though, both able to find gaps all over the ground, hitting lofty ones just as well as punches. Two fours from Varma in that over and the end of a commanding power play.

INDIA 80-1 (TILAK 11, ABHISHEK 53) Overs: 5

Jamie Overton to face Abhishek's music and he gets exactly the same treatment, giving up consecutive sixes from his first balls. Painful for England but incredible batting from Abhishek to reach his 50 from just 17 deliveries. That's the second fastest ever for India. It can only get better for Overton and it does, just a bit, and only briefly. Varma picks up his first boundaries with a top edge maximum and a wallop right down the ground for four. The 50 partnership came from 18 balls.

INDIA 55-1 (TILAK 1, ABHISHEK 38) Overs: 4

It's hard to know quite what Wood is doing differently but he's looking more effective than Archer, or the batters are more afraid... that is until he isn't. Abhishek rolls his wrists and claims a first boundary off a short ball from Wood with a graceful pull through midwicket. He shows he can drive as well as he can pull with the next ball, finding time you didn't think was available to him. An even better shot next with an offside throw all the way over the cover boundary to bring up the 50 for India. Just four overs have elapsed.

INDIA 39-1 (TILAK 0, ABHISHEK 23) Overs: 3

Archer returns and isn't holding back any more than Wood. It looks like he's going to get smashed to the boundary or sticking to dots with nothing in between. He gives up a four and another two sixes to Abhishek in that over, who will jump on anything that's a bit short or a bit wide. The second is the best of them, a lofted cover drive. They need hard hats in the crowd.

WICKET! INDIA 21-1 (SamsON 16, ABHISHEK 5) Overs: 2

Samson caught Archer, bowled Wood, 16 (7)
Mark Wood is handed the ball and charges down the pitch to prevent the score. Abhishek gets himself off the mark with a pull just over midwicket to run two, and the same again the other way from the next ball, a rapid 153kph-er! England have bet everything on pace here, but do they have the control? Yes, is the answer as India lose their first wicket with Samson whipping the ball to backward square. It's not hard or high enough and it's an easy catch for Archer who's just moved over to that boundary.

INDIA 16-0 (SamsON 16, ABHISHEK 0) Overs: 1

Jofra Archer opens the bowling for England on what the wise minds are sure is a flat and sleepy Wankhede strip. He's clubbed for 6 by Samson from the first ball, all the way over square which would suggest they're on to something. A couple of better balls, with better lines, follow, keeping Samson on his back foot although with the third he looks to have been hit on the right finger. Certainly the gloves are off (literally) and the medic is on straight away. Hopefully a bruise rather than a break and he's alright to continue. Samson clears the boundary again, using Archer's pace to just carry the ball behind square. A final ball of the over which Samson cuts for four to take that opening round.
Both teams have come out of their respective corners with their fists up.

England: Phil Salt (wk), Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler (capt), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

JUST THE ONE CHANGE FOR EACH SIDE

Mark Wood has been brought back into the side with Saqib Mahmood left out. Sir Alastair Cook isn’t sure about that decision and thinks Wood hasn’t been consistent or accurate enough this series, while the final match also offers a chance to try something different.
For India Shami comes in instead of Arshdeep.

ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS

Jos Buttler likes the look of the pitch and has chosen to chase. Suryakumar says he would have batted first anyway, so everyone is happy. For now.
