British Athletics announce team for cross country Worlds

Taking place on Sunday 26 March in Kampala, four athletes will represent in the senior women's race, while six will race in both the junior men's and women's events respectively.

Claire Duck will head up the senior women's team, in which she will be joined by English Nationals silver medallist Louise Small and 2016 European Under-23 team gold medallist Rebecca Murray, as well as Emily Hosker-Thornhill.

In the junior men's, Jonathan Shields will make his overseas debut in a British vest, with Scott Beattie and Luke Prior - the latter earning his first British call-up - joining him in Africa.

Also making the cut are Sam Stevens, Ben Davies and Hugo Milner, following top six finishes at Prestwold Hall last weekend.

Anna MacFadyen, the newly crowned Inter County champion, will lead out the junior women's team having taken victory in Loughborough last weekend.

Scottish national champion Gillian Black and European team gold medallists Victoria Weir and Amelia Quirk will also travel to Uganda, in addition to Cari Hughes and Phoebe Barker.

"We have selected a team that we feel will push and challenge the best cross country runners in the world out in Kampala," said Barry Fudge, British Athletics' head of endurance.

"It will be a tough and testing experience for those involved, but we believe that each athlete selected will perform to the best of their ability whilst proudly representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland."
