Klaebo sprints to Davos triumph
Triple Winter Olympic champion Johannes Hosflot Klaebo scooped first place in the sprint at the Davos World Cup as he continues the defence of his FIS Cross-Country World Cup title.
The Norwegian, who claimed a treble of golds at his debut Olympics in PyeongChang earlier this year, narrowly beat out competition from Italian Federico Pellegrino and Baptiste Gros of France, with the top four separated by less than two seconds on the Swiss course.
The 22-year-old defending champion qualified fastest for the final, completing the 1.5km course in 2:22.39 before clocking 2:20.44 in the final, 0.39s ahead of Pellegrino.
Gros completed the top three, edging out compatriot Lucas Chanavat by 0.05s to snatch a valuable third place.
The result sees Klaebo extend his lead at the top of the overall standings, with Pellegrino sitting second and Eirik Brandsdal third after three World Cup events.
