The start of the inaugural Tour de Ski will be postponed after organisers failed to find a replacement for the cancelled opener at Nove Mesto.

Instead of being held in the Czech resort on December 29 and 30, the start of the Tour de Ski will happen in Munich on December 31 with a free technique sprint.

Both the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the Czech Ski Association attempted to find a replacement for the starting stage, but were unable to due to shifting weather conditions.

The Nove Mesto portion was cancelled earlier this week because of lack of snow and mild temperatures.
