In the final she commanded the race but had to be careful as compatriot Maja Dahlqvist pushed her extremely close at the line and in the end Nilsson’s victory was only by 0.01.

Jonna Sundling completed a complete Swedish podium as Nilsson’s closest rival, Maiken Caspersen Falla, had to settle for fourth.

The top of the overall standings remain unchanged as none of the top five were able to reach the final.

In the men’s final Klaebo started conservatively but he ended fantastically as he powered away from the rest of his competitors for a dominant win.

Klaebo has already wrapped up the Sprint globe but every place he finishes above rival Alexander Bolshunov is critical as they duel for the overall title.

Bolshunov finished in fourth which sees Klaebo marginally extend his lead over the Russian.

There is still the Mass Start to come on Saturday and then the Pursuit on Sunday, with 200 points on offer for the overall winner of the World Cup finals.

It was a historic day for Great Britain as they had three skiers - James Clugnet, Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young - qualify for the finals but none were able to qualify for the main final.
