Beaten Scotland stay in the hunt

Scotland retained hopes of a semi-final place at the conclusion of session five of the 361° World Men's Curling Championships, despite a narrow 7-6 defeat to Olympic silver medallists Sweden.

Skip Bruce Mouat had secured a 6-4 win over Italy in the fourth game of the afternoon session, after picking up three in the eighth end, to maintain their unbeaten record.
The three other nations with 100 per cent records did the same, Korea defeating United States 7-5, Sweden beating Netherlands 5-2, while Norway saw off Japan 8-4.
But Mouat's men returned later that evening to taste defeat for the first time this week in Las Vegas, despite having opened up a 4-1 lead after four ends.
In the fifth, Swedish skip Niklas Edin played an open draw into the house to score three and tie the match, before seeing out victory.
Italy scored their first win of the Championships, beating Russia 9-6, with Amos Mosaner notching up three points in the tenth end.
Skip Joel Retornaz said: "We had two tough games to start, so we needed a win to keep trusting that we deserve to be here and that we can also be competitive.
"Coach Soren [Gran] came on the ice [at the break] and said we had to change our attitude and it worked out pretty well."
Brad Gushue's Canada swept away Olympic bronze medal winners Switzerland 7-2, while China notched up an important 6-5 win against Germany.
