Canada's Matt Dunstone improved to 2-0 midway through the second day of the third World Cup curling stop of the season.
The Saskatchewan-based rink beat Xiuyue Ma of China 6-3 in Thursday's second session.
In the Women's Round Robin event, Sweden beat China 8-4, China looked like they might get back into the match in the fifth end with two points, but three points for Sweden in the sixth wrapped it up.
Russia came from behind to beat Canada 8-5 in the other Group A clash. Canada scored one in the first end, but Russia hit back with three in the second and despite Canada clawing their way back in, another three for Russia in the fifth end was enough.
USA edged past South Korea 6-5 while Japan beat Scotland 6-3 after a strong start with five of their points scored in the first four ends.
The finals are on Sunday, with the grand final of the inaugural World Cup taking place in May in Beijing.
