Jennifer Jones leads Canada to dramatic triumph at World Curling Championships

Skip Jennifer Jones wanted her teammates to share the credit after she led hosts Canada to a dramatic gold medal with an 11th-end victory over Sweden at the World Curling Championships.

A dramatic, back-and-forth game in North Bay, was decided when Swedish skip Anna Hasselborg missed an attempted pick that would have forced Jones to throw her final stone.
This gave Canada a 7-6 victory and Jones her second world title, ten years after claiming her first – and her latest triumph adds to the gold she won at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Her rink of lead Dawn McEwen, second Jill Officer, third Kaitlyn Lawes and alternate Shannon Birchard were imperious throughout the competition, winning all 14 of their matches.
Jones said: "It's unbelievable, I'm so happy. I can't say enough about my team. We had a great week. We soaked up the atmosphere in the crowd and had fun in that final.
"I'm just so thrilled to be able to stand on top of the podium with these girls one more time."
Hasselborg was looking to become just the second woman to win both Olympic and world titles in the same year, one month after she skippered Sweden to gold in PyeongChang.
She forced an extra end with a run double that allowed Sweden to score two and level the match, before a cruel end.
She said of her final stone, which missed the Canadians' by millimetres: "It felt perfect, nice and clean, I really thought it was there."
