Sweden setting the pace in North Bay after Germany win

Sweden extended their lead at the top of the leaderboard of the Ford World Women's Curling Championship in North Bay today as they beat Germany 8-4.

The round robin session on Wednesday morning saw the Olympic champions overcome the Germans in nine ends, making it eight out of eight wins after 12 sessions and leaving Germany languishing in last place.
Korea narrowly beat the USA 9-8 to maintain third place in the rankings behind hosts Canada, forcing an extra end to get the victory.
At the other end of the table, Switzerland beat Denmark 7-5, taking a point in the tenth end to secure victory.
And Scotland overcame Japan 10-7 in nine ends to further damage the Olympic bronze medallists' chances of qualification for the next round.
Only the top six teams will go through, and with China, Japan and the USA tying in sixth place, with three wins and four losses apiece, there is all to play for in the final eight rounds.
In session 13 this afternoon, the USA will face China in the battle for sixth place, while Korea face a tough challenge against the hosts.
Italy will play Denmark while Russia play the Czech Republic, before the 14th round this evening where Russia face Germany, Japan play Italy and China play Scotland.
The most exciting clash will be between leaders Sweden and Canada at 11pm GMT.
