It was all set for a tasty clash between PyeongChang silver and bronze medallists, and it played out as such, each side trading single points in the opening ends.
A two-point fourth from Switzerland looked to have opened up the match, but for Sweden to hit back straight away and re-take the lead.
A further pair of points in the seventh saw Sweden take a 6-4 lead, but Switzerland dug in to score two more of their own to once again level.
Neither side could force the initiative, each scoring a single point on the hammer in the final two ends, forcing sudden death.
And with the Silvana Tirinzoni skippered Swiss taking the initiative, it took just a single point at the death to seal an historic victory.
