Switzerland banished their semi-final demons and clinched bronze over Italy at the men's World Curling Championships in Canada. The match concluded with Italy conceding an 11-3 defeat after scoring one point in the final end.
Switzerland claimed World Curling Championship bronze with a roaring 11-3 victory over Italy.
Following their surprise defeat to hosts Canada in the semi-finals, Benoit Schwarz's rink had a point to prove in Ottawa, Canada.
After a scoreless opening end on Sunday morning, Benoit Schwarz scored two points in the second end by tapping out an Italian stone.
In the third end, Switzerland managed to steal one point from Italy's Joel Retornaz, extending their lead to 3-0.
The Swiss continued their streak of three successive steals and went into the fifth end break with an 8-0 lead.
However, Italy managed to score two points in the sixth end, reducing the lead to 8-2. In the seventh end, Switzerland scored three more points, making it an 11-2 lead.
The match concluded with Italy conceding an 11-3 defeat after scoring one point in the final end. Swiss skip Yannick Schwaller commented that it was hard for both teams to get into the mood to win the match.
