France's Jimmy Casper (Unibet.com) won the opening stage of the Three Days of West Flanders, beating last year's winner Niko Eeckhout in the final sprint on Friday.
Fresh off of his victory in the one-day Belgian semi-classic Le Samyn GP, Casper again outsprinted the field in Belgium.
The 2006 race victor Eeckhout finished second in the 170-km stage from Kortrijk to Bellegem, and his Belgain compatriot Wouter Weylandt (Quick Step) took third.
The 28-year-old Casper, who won the opening stage of the Tour de France last year, now leads the general classification at the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen.
