Matteo Trentin will no doubt be enjoying a restful holiday having branded those who ride on Christmas Day “losers.”

The European road race champion told Italian outlet Tuttobici: “Whoever rides on Christmas Day and the first of the New Year is a loser.”
He added: “I hope everyone enjoys themselves during the holidays and spends time with their loved ones. On days like these we shouldn’t go training but stay with our families and friends that we struggle to see during the year.”
The Mitchelton-Scott rider said he would get back on his bike on Boxing Day and December 30 to take part in two local cyclo-cross races in San Fior and Scorze.
He added: “It’s just for fun, I don’t think I’m on form to be competitive. I’ll burn off the Panettone and get ready for New Year dinner.”
