Britain’s Matt Walls produced a tactical masterclass to win gold in the elimination race at the European Championships in Glasgow.

Walls dictated the tempo from the front throughout, refusing to get dragged into the dogfights going on behind him.

Such an approach runs the risk of your rivals slipstreaming on your back wheel, and then powering past on the line, but the 20-year-old proved too strong as he saw off Portugal’s Rui Oliveira in the final sprint.
