Simon Yates finished safely in that main pack to retain his lead, which in fact has got a bit larger thanks to those bonus seconds in the intermediate sprint. Still no sign of Chaves and we've been waiting for more than 10 minutes... The day belongs to this man, Mohoric.

Here's how Mohoric denied Denz in that tense sprint...

Here's the top 10 no one expected to see today...

The Slovenian was forced to open up the sprint, Denz powered through from his slipstream, the two drew level in a real slugfest, but it was Mohoric who had more power left in the tank. Sam Bennett wins the sprint for third place ahead of Enrico Battaglin when the pack comes home 34 seconds down.

Victory for Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Merida!

Denz has the more favourable position behind Mohoric. He's a classics rider who usually works for others. Can he get some glory? They come to a near standstill...

The two leaders go through a chicane and pass under the kilometre-to-go banner.

Just two clicks to go for the leaders, who have 48 seconds to play with. Behind, Adam Hansen attacks from the peloton - but surely it's too little, too late. Does he think he's going for the stage win??
3km
It's hard to choose between Mohoric and Denz. The former attacked earlier but the latter bust a gut to bridge over. You'd back the Slovenian but the German could pull something out of the bag. They have just under a minute.
4km
Villella is the next who will be caught by the streamline pack - which is now only 50-strong max.

De Marchi and Henao have called it a day with 5km remaining.
6km
Villella still in no-man's land and he won't be able to join Mohoric and Denz to contest the finish now. It's between these two unless something miraculous happens.
7km
Katusha, EF Education First and Bora come to the front but they still have to close this 1'15" gap on the two leaders.
8km
No one is yet to commit to the chase in the peloton - and if they don't act soon, they won't contest for the win. Vendrame has been caught.

Under the 10-to-go banner go the leading duo with 20 seconds on Villella and 40 seconds on De Marchi and Henao. The main pack is 1'10" down with one rider trying his luck - that man Andrea Vendrame of Androni.
10.5km
Denz is really having to bury himself to keep up with Mohoric, who is a machine on this kind of rolling terrain.
11.5km
Meanwhile, there's another attack from an Androni rider off the front of the main pack... it's all happening out there.
12km
Denz catches Mohoric but it looks like Villella has popped. No, he's still there, but looking over his shoulder as he tries his best to bridge over - because behind there's Henao and De Marchi in pursuit.
