And confirmation of the new top 10 as Yates retains his maglia rosa and Froome re-enters the top five.

Today's result as Dennis keeps Martin and Dumoulin at bay.

What a ride from Simon Yates, who comes home only 1:37 down on Dennis and 1:15 down on Tom Dumoulin. So he'll keep his maglia rosa by 56 seconds.

Now we just need to see what Yates's gap at the top will be tonight... the British rider is entering Rovereto after his ballsy ride.

Victory in Stage 16 for Rohan Dennis (BMC).

Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) is 22 seconds down on Dennis at the finish...

Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain Merida) crosses the line 2:20 down on Dennis. He should stay on the virtual podium with that.

Pinot noir: it's a black day for the French rider who will perhaps drop out of the top five today. His time trialling was meant to have got better but on this evidence it's still his big achilles heel and what will stop him ever winning a Grand Tour. Pinot is 3:19 down on Dennis.

Lopez comes home 2:47 down so he'll move 30 seconds clear of Carapaz on GC and in the white jersey classification.

Yates has a sketchy moment through a tight corner but manages to recover. He's 1:07 down at the second intermediate check and so he's conceding time but not enough time to lose the maglia rosa.

Carapaz comes home 2:57 down on Dennis. Ouch.

Dumoulin is 19 seconds down on Dennis at the second check so he's kept his consistency. It won't be enough to overtake Yates, though.

Tom Dumoulin overcooked a tight bend ahead of the climb but managed to save it ok. He's closing in on Domenico Pozzovivo who it's not inconceivable he will pass before the finish. Second check coming up.

Thibaut Pinot is a HUGE 2:36 down at the second check so he's on course to lose a packet today.

It's a time of 40:35 for Chris Froome at the finish so that's the fourth quickest time, 35 seconds down on the leader Dennis. A good effort from the Sky rider, who could move up the standings a bit today.

Simon Yates is only 38 seconds down - so he's only conceded 21 seconds over the first part of the course to his big rival Dumoulin. He's going to be in pink tonight. The Giro d'Italia is his to lose...

Tom Dumoulin is 17 seconds down on Dennis at the first check.
