Ciao ragazzi! Welcome to live coverage of stage 16 of the Giro d'Italia. We've had the second rest day and now it's business time: three summit finish remain in this race clustered around one day offering some scraps to the sprinters, then there's the small matter of the final time trial in Verona, which could be key.

Confirmation of the top 10 of today's stage 16.
Replays show that Ciccone threw his sunglasses into the crowd while celebrating that win... a nice memento for one fan, for sure.

Bora duo Majka and Formolo cross the line with Zakarin 4'45" down. Bad day for them, and they'll drop down the standings a little.

Pavel Sivakov comes home 3'43" down and so he will lose the white jersey to Lopez, who lost contact before the finish and came home 10 seconds down on the Nibali group.

Mollema leads Yates, Nieve and Roglic over the line 3'03" down. So that's 1'23" down on Nibali, Carapaz et al.

Vincenzo Nibali leads the chasers home 1'40" down for fourth place ahead of Carthy, whom he berates for not helping out more during the lead in.

Third place for Fausto Masnada, who'd been forgotten about. He crosses the line 1'20" down.

The Italian is ecstatic as he crosses the line with some kind of elaborate celebration involving, I think, him ripping off an imaginary rain cape... What a day for Ciccone, who pretty much guaranteed the maglia azzurra too.

Ciccone leads it out and he has too much for Jan Hirt! Victory for Giulio Ciccone of Trek Segafredo!

Ciccone moves to the front of the duo with 500m to go. He takes out his earpiece...

Entering the final kilometre now for our two leaders, who pass under the flamme rouge. It's anyone's game now...
1.5km
Nibali and Caruso driving the pace now. Whoever finishes third will pick up some bonus seconds so expect the Shark to target those to edge closer to Carapaz.
2km
The gap is now 1'30" back to the Roglic group so he will drop to third place today.
3km
Even the pink jersey of Carapaz is taking pulls in this group of main favourites because he stands to put more time in between him and Roglic, who could well drop to third place behind Nibali today.
4km
The gap is coming down for out two leaders but they won't be caught. It will either be a maiden Grand Tour stage win for Hirt or a second Giro scalp for Ciccone. The watts of the chase group has seen the Roglic group drop a bit further off the pace. Yates has Nieve now with him in that group with Mollema and the Slovenian.

Carthy, Dombrowski and Cattaneo are also in this chasing group with Carapaz, Landa, Lopez, Nibali and Caruso. They're 3'10" down on the two leaders with Roglic-Yates-Mollema now only one minute behind.

Ciccone, however, looks to be really suffering in this rain. He didn't take the jacket on the summit and while he has a sleeveless gilet, he does appear to be shivering a little ahead of the finale.
7km
Hirt, 28, has just two pro wins to his name - stage 4 of the 2016 Tour of Austria and the GC. Ciccone, 24, won a stage at the Giro at Sestola in 2016 and has three other pro wins.
8km
Lopez and Bilbao have now been caught by the maglia rosa group. They trail the leaders by 3'42" so the win will go to either Ciccone or Hirt.
