Ineos Grenadiers have announced that British star rider Tom Pidcock will "be rested for a prescribed period" after apparently suffering a concussion in a crash late on during the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico on Sunday. The news comes as a blow for the 23-year-old who had started the season on a high following a historic victory at Strade Bianche.

Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) is set to miss this weekend’s Milan-San Remo race with concussion following his crash on the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico.
The British rider went down late on during the final stage of the race in San Benedetto del Tronto. Although no serious injuries were reported at the time, Pidcock was pulled from the race by Ineos.
The 23-year-old was set to return to action at ‘La Classicissima’, however, his team announced he will be "rested for a prescribed period".
The team wrote in a statement: “Tom Pidcock has been undergoing continuous monitoring by the team’s doctors following his crash on the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico.
"After presenting symptoms of a mild concussion, Tom will now be rested for a prescribed period, in line with established concussion protocols.”
Rod Ellingworth, the deputy team principal, added: “This is obviously disappointing for Tom and the team. We saw at Strade Bianche the sort of form he’s in and I know how keen he was to carry that into Milano-San Remo.
“But rider welfare is our first priority and he’ll follow the advice of our medical team to ensure that he’s 100% ready to safely resume his Classics campaign.”
Olympic mountain bike gold medallist Pidcock had an impressive start to the season, winning Strade Bianche in impressive fashion.
His crash in the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico was his second of the race, having earlier been involved in a spill with Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) on Stage 4.
