Pidcock confirmed for WIGGINS as team waves goodbye to senior track riders

Riders such as Steven Burke, Andy Tennant, Ollie Wood and Chris Latham were taken on by Team Wiggins with its initial aim being to help the five-time Olympic champion, and his teammates, as they went for gold in Rio.

With Wiggins now no longer riding, the team will transition to being a fully-fledged U23 development team – with British cycling prodigy Tom Pidcock, World junior cyclo-cross and time trial champion, being their highest profile signing for the 2018 season.

"I'm proud that Team WIGGINS is now known as a top development team for young talent from the UK and abroad," said team owner Wiggins.

"Team WIGGINS has exceeded all expectations to date, and the 2018 crop of under 23 riders looks as exciting as ever. We had our first team get together with physiological testing last week where it was great to meet the team and talk through the 2018 plans.

"This is the next generation of cycling heroes, and I hope Team WIGGINS will inspire more and more people to ride bikes."

With the new riders coming in, there is no place for double Olympic champion Burke, or World Champion Tennant.

While Latham and Wood – both track-focussed riders who won British premier calendar road races for the team in 2017 – will also move on, the latter to JLT Condor.

Alongside Pidcock, New Zealand's Campbell Stewart, Irishman Mark Downey, and Wood's younger brother Reece, among others, all join the 18-strong team.
