We took the Rockrider 540 out for a test but didn't expect to be quite as impressed as we were.
Btwin by Decathlon have rapidly become a major player in the UK bike scene, and it’s not hard to see why. The French company have clearly invested a lot of time and effort into designing bikes that combine comfort, performance, reliability and affordability. The result is a range of good-looking bicycles with higher spec and rideability than would normally be expected at their entry-level prices.
The Rockrider 540 Mountain Bike is no exception. Picked up at a relatively affordable £349, this is not only a terrific bike for those looking for an introduction to the sport, but it also offers a level of quality that will satisfy more experience riders.
The Spec
- 100mm hyrdaulic forks with lockout
- 27 speed SHIMANO Altus gears
- HAYES Radar hydraulic disc brakes
- Lightweight 27.5" aero rims
- 6 position stem
- Oversized bars
- Lamellar grips
- Ergo fit saddle
- Prowheel flint 401 triple-chaining chain set
- EVO comfort geometry frame made out of solid 6061 aluminum
Rideability
The Rockrider is an extremely comfortable ride, enjoyably smooth on light surfaces and impressively absorbent when forced onto tougher terrain.
Of course, this comes with a caveat: there’s only so good a bike at this price can be. But as an early introduction to the sport it’s going to be hard to find a more dynamic, adaptable and comfortable bike.
Price
Currently retailing at £349.00
Smooth gearing, a comfortable ride and a lifetime guarantee; it doesn’t get much better than that. This is a bike that BTwin could charge another £200 for and people would still buy it.
