Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) held off a late push from Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) to win Stage 3 at Tirreno-Adriatico.
Towards the end of the stage a small group started to form with a number of Team Sky riders as well as big names such as Peter Sagan and Mikel Landa involved.
However it was Roglic who made a move first, with just over 1km to go and as he hit the flamme rouge he had a good gap between himself and the rest of the riders.
The end of the stage was a brutal climb and accordingly some riders started to drop out as Team Sky looked the most likely to catch Roglic.
Greg Van Avermaet tried to accelerate but it was Yates who made the best push to try to get to the leader.
However he couldn’t manage it and he ran out of road as Roglic secured the stage.
Geraint Thomas rode in fourth and that means that he now moves up to take the blue leader’s jersey with Chris Froome up to third.
