Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) and Marcel Kittel (Katusha Alpecin) are both out of the Tour de France after failing to make the time cut-off.

Great Britain's Mark Cavendish crosses, outside the time limit, the finish line of the eleventh stage of the 105th edition of the Tour de France cycling race between Albertville and La Rosiere, French Alps, on July 18, 2018.

Going into Wednesday's stage the pair were already in danger, having narrowly avoided elimination on Tuesday, making the cut-off by just 28 seconds.
However, Cavendish got off to the worst start when he was dropped on the first climb as his team-mates tried to preserve their own status.
The cut-off point was marked at 31 minutes 27 seconds behind stage winner Geraint Thomas, but Cavendish was over an hour off him.

It is the second year in a row that Cavendish has had to abandon the Tour after breaking his shoulder in an incident with Peter Sagan that saw the world champion kicked out of the race.
It is the fourth year overall Cavendish has left the race.
Kittel fared better, but he too was unable to make the cut, coming in 42 minutes 51 seconds behind Thomas.
Cavendish's team-mate Mark Renshaw also failed to make the cut but there was better news for Kittel's team-mate Rick Zabel who missed by four seconds but was allowed in by the race organisers.
