Menchov pulls out

Tour of Spain champion Denis Menchov did not start stage 11 of the race from Torrelavega to Burgos on Wednesday.

The Russian pulled out with stomach problems, the race's official Web site said.

Rabobank rider Menchov, one of the pre-race favourites, was lying 67th overall, 47 minutes 34 seconds down on leader Alejandro Valverde of Spain.

Menchov inherited the 2005 Vuelta title after Spaniard Roberto Heras was stripped of the win following a positive test for the banned blood-booster erythropoietin (EPO).
