Ion Izagirre claimed overall victory in the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana as Dylan Groenewegen won the fifth and final stage in Spain.

A late break saw Groenewegen beat Alexander Kristoff and and Matteo Trentin in a tight finish, while the sprinters and Izagirre managed to avoid a crash in the final kilometre.

Astana rider Izagirre finished seven seconds ahead of Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde overall.

Pello Bilbao ensured it was a Spanish 1-2-3 by finishing third, 16 seconds clear of Ireland’s Dan Martin.
