With neither Olympic time trial gold medallist Tyler Hamilton nor six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, the U.S. named their team for next week's world championships in Verona. Acqua e Sapone's two-time U.S. champion Fred Rodriguez tops the bill
Other riders in the team for the October 2 men's elite road race who practice their trade in Italy are Fassa Bortolo's Guido Trenti and Tom Danielson, who will ride the individual time trial on September 30 with US Postal's Dave Zabriskie.
Three other U.S. Postals will travel to Italy, Patrick McCarty, Michael Creed, and Antonio Cruz, who has performed well on the Vuelta.
Missing mailmen include not only Armstrong, who has not ridden the worlds since 1998, but also George Hincapie.
The 12-man team also includes current U.S. champion Jason McCartney (Health Net), Chris Horner (Webcor), Kirk O'Bee and Chris Baldwin (Navigators), and Roberto Heras team-mate Christian Vande Velde (Liberty Seguros).
